  • Back-channeling refers to the verbal and non-verbal cues that listeners give during a conversation to show they are actively engaged and paying attention without interrupting the speaker.
  • Why it's important: it allows for smooth exchanges without awkward pauses, encourages storytelling, and shows active engagement that builds rapport.
  • Verbal back-channeling uses short phrases ("Uh-huh", "Yeah", "I see", "Really?", "Wow"); non-verbal back-channeling uses body language such as nodding, eye contact, smiling, and leaning forward.
• Future Expressions
  • There are several ways to express future actions, plans, or events: will/won't, be going to, present continuous, future continuous, future perfect, be about to, shall, and be to + verb.
  • Use "be going to" or the present continuous for plans and intentions decided beforehand; use "will" for spontaneous decisions, offers, or promises; use the present continuous or "be to + verb" for scheduled events.

  • A fact is a statement that can be proven true or false based on evidence, and is objective. Example: "The Eiffel Tower is located in Paris, France."
  • An opinion is a personal belief, feeling, or view that cannot be proven true or false, and is subjective. Example: "Paris is the most beautiful city in the world."
• Passive Sentence
  • Passive voice is a grammatical construction where the subject of the sentence receives the action of the verb, rather than performing it.
  • Structure of passive sentence: Subject + (form of the verb "to be") + Past Participle of Verb + (by + Agent).
  • How to form a passive sentence: identify the object of the active sentence, change the subject to the object, use the correct form of "to be", use the past participle of the main verb, and optionally include the agent with "by".
  • Example — Active: "The teacher explains the lesson." Passive: "The lesson is explained by the teacher."
