Knowledge Corner — Adverbs of Frequency

Present simple tense is used to talk about habits, routines, and things that happen regularly. When we want to say how often something happens, we use adverbs of frequency with the present simple. Forming simple present: Positive Statement (affirmative): Subject + base verb (add -s/-es for he/she/it). Example: I play football. / She plays football. Negative Statement: Subject + do/does + not + base verb. Example: I do not (don't) play football. / She does not (doesn't) play football. Yes/No Question: Do/Does + subject + base verb? Example: Do you play football? / Does she play football? Short Answer: Yes/No + subject + do/does. Example: Yes, I do. / No, she doesn't. Adverbs of frequency tell us how often an action happens: Always → 100% of the time → I always eat breakfast Usually → About 80-90% of the time → She usually walks to school Often/frequently → About 60-70% of the time → They often play football Sometimes → About 40-50% of the time → We sometimes watch movies Rarely/seldom → About 10-20% of the time → He rarely drinks soda Never → 0% of the time → I never eat junk food

Do You Know? — Earth's Shrinking Day

When the Earth first formed billions of years ago, a day was much shorter—only about six hours long. Over time, tidal interactions between Earth and the Moon have gradually slowed Earth's rotation, making our current 24-hour day—and night—longer by millions of years of cosmic change.
