This will help you practice comprehension and develop your ability to explain ideas clearly using the text as evidence. A Day at the Zoo Last Saturday, I went to the zoo with my best friend Sarah. We were really excited because we had planned the trip for weeks. We arrived early in the morning, just when the zoo opened, so we had plenty of time to explore. The weather was perfect—sunny, with a cool breeze. We started our adventure at the lion's den. When we got there, the lions were resting under a tree, but we could still see them clearly through the glass. They looked peaceful, but I knew that they could be very fierce if they wanted to. After watching the lions for a while, we headed to the elephant enclosure. The elephants were having a great time playing with water. One of them sprayed water all over the place with its trunk, and we both laughed. We took some pictures of the elephants and moved on to the monkey house. There were many monkeys jumping around and playing with each other. It was fun to watch them swing from branch to branch. Sarah and I both agreed that the monkeys were the funniest animals at the zoo. Around noon, we decided to have lunch. We found a spot near the giraffe and zebra exhibit, where we could sit and enjoy our sandwiches. The giraffes were eating leaves from the tall trees, and the zebras were walking around calmly. After lunch, we visited the reptile house and saw snakes, lizards, and turtles. Sarah was a little scared of the snakes, but I thought they were fascinating. The day ended with us watching the penguins swim in their pool, sliding across the ice. We both had such a great time and agreed that we should come back to the zoo soon. I can't wait for our next visit! Answer the questions below: 1. Who did the writer go to the zoo with? 2. What did they see at the elephant enclosure? 3. When did they go to the zoo? 4. Where did they have lunch? 5. Why did the writer think the monkeys were the funniest animals at the zoo? 6. How did the lions behave when the writer visited them?

Mission 9. Evaluating Statements

Read the story carefully. After reading, evaluate each statement and determine whether it is TRUE or FALSE based on the information provided in the text. A Visit to the Museum Last weekend, I visited the history museum with my cousin Mark. We were both excited because we love learning about the past. We arrived in the morning and went straight to the Ancient Egypt section. There, we saw many fascinating things, including mummies and statues of ancient gods. I was amazed by how well-preserved everything was! After that, we moved to the medieval section, where we saw armor, swords, and shields. Mark really liked the swords, while I was more interested in the ancient artwork on the walls. For lunch, we sat at the museum café. We had sandwiches and cold drinks while talking about the exhibits we'd seen so far. After lunch, we explored the section about the Renaissance. We saw beautiful paintings and sculptures, and I was especially excited to see a painting by Leonardo da Vinci! Mark didn't know much about the Renaissance, so I explained some things to him. We spent a few more hours in the museum, and then we went home, feeling happy and inspired. It was a great day, and we agreed to visit another museum next month!
